Blue Mosque : Istanbul , Turkey

 Explore Blue Mosque:

Blue Mosque or Sultan Ahmed Mosque is a historic mosque located in Istanbul, Turkey.  It was built during the reign of Sultan Ahmed and is one of the most urban sights in Istanbul.

Blue Mosque derives its name from the blue tiles on its inner walls.  These tiles were produced in the Uznik region of Turkey and feature exquisite floral motifs and beautiful calligraphy.  The blue tiles create a soothing and calm atmosphere inside the mosque.

This mosque has six minarets, which is different from the usual four minarets mosques.  Legend has it that the "golden" minarets were mistaken for "six" minarets at the Sultan's request to the architect.  The Sultan solved this problem and built a seventh minaret in the Jama Masjid of Mecca.
